Interview Technique Guidelines

Discuss the following areas and add new categories relevant to the position being applied for:

  • Current job responsibilities
  • Motivation – what motivates you and why do you want the job.
  • Team involvement – examples of working collaboratively in teams, team communication, conflict resolution, working together towards common goals.
  • Examples showing initiative
  • People management examples
  • Experience with information technology

Use the following framework to discuss specific projects you have worked on:

  • SITUATION – describe the situation
  • ACTION – what were your actions
  • RESULT – what was the specific result of your action

Clinical Research Associate

SITUATION

The situation was that patient recruitment into an oncology trial was slow.

ACTION

The action that I specifically took was to arrange a dinner meeting with the 4 principal investigators and invited 14 of their colleagues. The agenda included a background review of the importance of the trial and a presentation of a streamlined process for referring eligible patients.

RESULT

The result of my actions were that another 16 patients were recruited over the next 2 months.
